Maintenance

The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), managed and operated by Battelle for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), is tasked with managing radiation detection systems for nuclear smuggling detection and deterrence. PNNL has established maintenance contracts with local providers to sustain these systems after their initial deployment.

Al-Thurya General Trading & Contracting Co. was awarded a significant contract by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) through Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) for the maintenance of radiation portal monitors at Abdali Border and Doha Sea Port. The project involves ensuring the continued functionality and performance of Rapiscan-installed RPMs (Radiation Portal Monitors) at these critical locations.

Objectives:

• Routine Maintenance: Perform and document routine maintenance of Radiation Portal Monitors (RPMs).
  • Corrective Maintenance: Execute and document corrective maintenance as needed.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain, control, and store an adequate inventory of RPM spare parts.
  • Radioactive Check Sources: Provide secure storage for radioactive check sources.
  • Electronic Alignment & Compliance: Conduct electronic alignment and functional compliance tests on RPMs.

The maintenance contract is set for 3 years, commencing on July 1, 2021, and concluding on June 30, 2024.

Location & Equipment Installation Details:

• Abdali Border Crossing, Kuwait: 5 Dual-pillar Vehicle RPM units & other handheld devices
  • Doha Sea Port, Kuwait: 2 Dual-pillar Vehicle RPM units, 1 Dual-pillar Rail RPM unit & other handheld devices
