Tracerco™ mud monitor

The TracercoTM mud monitor is a crucial radiation monitoring device used during logging while drilling (LWD) to confirm radioactive source integrity and protect personnel from potential radiation exposure.

During drilling operations, a radioactive source is often used to log reservoir properties. In some cases, this source can be damaged by the drill bit, leading to radiation contamination in the drilling mud and mud tank, which poses radiation safety risks for workers.

TracercoTM mud monitor is trusted by drilling companies to ensure safe working conditions. It is intrinsically safe, tested, and certified for use in potentially explosive atmospheres, including zones 0, 1, and 2.

The instrument is easily clamped to the outside of the mud circulation system via the powerful magnet provided. A sensitive radiation detector links with the directional drilling control system to provide real-time monitoring of background radiation levels. If an increase in radiation level is detected, the system issues a clear signal to alert personnel of potential downhole radioactive source leakage.

Key features of the TracercoTM mud monitor:

  • Continuous radiation monitoring – provides an analogue output proportional to radiation intensity
  • Failsafe system – continuously monitors radiation detector condition and triggers an alarm in case of failure
  • Reliable in harsh conditions – unaffected by hostile drilling processes
  • Easy installation
  • Highly reliable
  • Fast response
  • Integration options – supports radiation monitoring via a standalone alarm unit or integration into DCS or SCADA systems
  • Certified intrinsically safe – tested and certified for use in potentially explosive atmosphere, zones 0, 1, and 2 hazardous areas
